Welcome to the Slow Foods | Glades to Coast Website

Slow Food Glades to Coast champions the protection of our unique sub-tropical environment, our coastland and ocean and the life within it-from sea to sea of grass.

Eat Slow Week

Eat Slow Eat LocalSlow Food Glades to Coast is sponsoring a week long Eat Slow - Eat Local event series,  April 1-7, 2013 in Broward and Palm Beach Counties highlighting the production and use of locally grown, caught, and raised food. This food celebration features the prolific production of our farmers, ranchers, and fishermen and also celebrates the creativity of our world class local chefs. Attention will be focused on the important ways that our local economy is interwoven with the production and consumption of local foods and the pleasure that this bounty gives us.

The week will include these events:

  • Restaurants that use local products will create special menus listing those products
  • Farm tours
  • Demonstrations by celebrity chefs at markets carrying locally grown produce (e.g., Delray Green Market, Miramar Memorial Farmers’ Market)
  • Identification of locally grown food in Farmers markets in the area
  • Tours of community gardens that make produce available to the public

Funds raised during the Eat Slow-Eat Local week through local restaurants will help support such Slow Food Glades to Coast projects as: grants to Community and school gardens, the Green School Snail Award for Best School Garden, Growing Green Communities Day at the Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, scholarships to attend The Florida Small Farm Conference, film showings, and Slow Scene Food Education.

For participating partners and events see rest of the article. Updates ongoing.
